The wife of renowned underground hip hop legend MF DOOM announced on October 31 2021 that the masked rapper passed away at 49 years old.
Doom or Daniel Dumile was born in London and grew up in Long Island, New York. Dumile would start his rapping career in the late 1980s as a member of the trio KMD, performing under the name Zev Love X with his younger brother DJ Subroc and another MC called Rodan. KMD released two albums: 1991’s Mr. Hood and 1993’s Black Bastards. DJ Subroc was struck by a car and killed shortly before the release of Black Bastards, marking the end of KMD until DOOM shared a previously unreleased track, “True Lightyears,” in 2017.
MF DOOM had spanned decades delivering music for his fanbase while never really getting the shine he deserved. Upon his death, Variety called him “one of the most celebrated, unpredictable and enigmatic figures in independent hip-hop“.
