Rapsody Pays Homage To 2Pac’s Mother On New Video “Afeni”

Marking the Birthday weekend of the late Afeni Shakur mother of 2Pac, Rapsody taps Pj Morton to unleash the official video to “Afeni“.

Music from the clip is taken from her recently released album “EVE” and fits the theme of the album that celebrates inspirational black women that helped break down barriers. Speaking with Billboard the North Carolina rapper recently touched on her purpose in making albums like EVE.

“I want to remind people that being a woman is a beautiful thing, and it’s a part of you, but it’s not all you are,” Rapsody said. “You can just be dope without having to just be about your gender. No matter where you’re from, no matter what gender you are, religion you are, you can be dope. I want to inspire people to find themselves and to love themselves and never let nobody box you in.”

For the inspirational ode to the civil rights activist Rapsody keeps that same energy as the clip starts with vocals from Shakur’s “Keep Ya Head Up.” The story later goes on to tell one somewhat similar to Pac’s with a woman and man meeting and falling in love and she becomes pregnant. After going through some trials in her relationship the pregnancy uplifts and heals her spirit, as she raises her baby alone with a new outlook on life.
